San Clemente repeated as champions in the boys 3-mile sweepstakes race at the Orange County Cross County Championships at Oak Canyon Park in Silverado, Calif. The Tritons had three of the top four finishers and placed all five scorers in the top 15 to prevail by a 34-99 margin against Trabuco Hills. Juan Chantaca, a senior, set a course record on the new 3-mile layout by clocking 14:26.4, with junior Brett Ephraim taking third in 14:28.4 and senior Rory Catsimanes finishing fourth in 14:29.7. Pierce Clark, a junior, grabbed 13th in 15:02.0 and senior Grant Sestak placed 15th in 15:04.6. Taj Clark, a junior, achieved 27th in 15:19.8 and freshman Dallin Harrington took 43rd in 15:39.5. Chantaca, Ephraim and Catsimanes moved up from placing 10th, 11th and 12th last year, leading San Clemente to a 50-93 victory against Capistrano Valley.
